Beauty Blunder 13: What Is Normal Hair Loss?
Question: Hey Sara, I've recently switched to lighter color sheets, and I've noticed a lot of hair around my pillow when I wake up. There aren't any chunks on the bed, and my hair doesn't feel different. I just want to know, what's the normal amount of hair to lose?
Answer: Who knew what lighter sheets could do to a person? For a while, my boyfriend was concerned with the trail of tresses I left around his room. "You seem to be losing a lot of hair," he said to me. Suddenly, I felt like a shedding dog. "It's normal hair loss," I told him. "We all lose a bunch of the stuff every day." As he was still unconvinced, I looked around for a handful of his hair, which I did not find, cursed the sheets, gathered my lost strands, and hobbled away like a crazy woman in denial. The truth is,

Beauty Blunder 12: Stylist From Hell
I've had it. All. Of. It. Bad manicures, bad makeup, ugly haircuts, and spray tans even the cast of Jersey Shore wouldn't want.
Thankfully, I learned from my own eyebrow mistakes early on to never let another soul go near my arches. It's one thing if you have the ability to be your own beautician, but it's a whole other ball game when you have to rely on others to turn you into your most flattering self. Trust becomes very important, and if you have dollar signs in your eyes instead of quality, you may end up paying much more to correct what was done.
Here is the story of my stylist from Hell and how I learned to grow into a more informed client.

Question: Hi, Sara. I love the look of eyeliner on my eyes, but every time I try to apply it my hand starts shaking and I can't get a perfect line. Am I ever going to be able to apply eyeliner, or should I just give up?

Beauty Blunder 8: Treating Overly Processed Hair
Question: Hey girl! I have a few things that I've been curious about. I've been trying to grow my hair out forever and with how frequently I dye my hair it's almost impossible. I've heard about supplements such as biotin or MSM being good for hair growth. Is this true or just a rumor?
And I'd also be curious if there are any treatments specializing in the repair of bleached hair?
Answer: Hey lady! Oh no, it sounds like you have the bleacher's conundrum. Here we go! If you're trying to repair already damaged strands of hair, a supplement won't work. That hair is already past the point of turning it around with miracle pills. My teacher in cosmetology school once said,

Beauty Blunder 7: What's The Order For Skincare?
Question: I just bought a bunch of new skincare products (cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc.) but I'm not exactly sure of the order to use them. They came from different companies, so I don't know. Thank you!
Answer: Great question. It's nice that you're dabbling in different lines; that's how you find your favs. Sometimes one company has one outstanding product, and the rest are mediocre. As long as your skin is benefiting from your lotions and potions, good for you. The order to apply products is from

Beauty Blunder 5: How-to Tell A Friend Their Look Is Bad
Question: My 50 year old brother-in-law visited recently for a family birthday party. I strongly suspect he is cutting his own hair. Most of the cut was unremarkable but a portion (think of the state of Florida) was too long on the back side of the head. I am sure about the Florida part.
I did take pictures but, in kindness I avoided that offensive spot. If it was a small state like Delaware or Rhode Island then 'NO PROBLEM but this was FLORIDA! How do I let him know he should turn on the lights when he cuts his hair? I don't want him to be embarrassed. How do I fix this blunder once and for all? -Joe

Beauty Blunder 3: What Do I Use To Keep Eyebrow Hairs In Place?
Annoyed, F, 19, Asks: I once had this great liquid gel to prevent my eyebrows from sticking up. Besides cutting them extremely short, is there anything else I can do? I can't find the gel anywhere. Thanks!Answer: I would be annoyed, too! I hate when I lose something I like to use. I assume you don't remember the name of the product, or you would have purchased another. I would never, ever recommend cutting eyebrow hair extremely short. There's a lot of potential to take too much & then look silly. I would, however, recommend trying clear mascara. It works great to keep those hairs in place, & it comes with a handy applicator brush, so you don't have to apply a product & then look for a small comb to keep the hairs in place. I hope this helps!
